Welcome to Sussex Innovation
We're a business incubation network, supporting entrepreneurs, start-ups and scale-ups across the South East from our headquarters at the University of Sussex. Our members are ambitious companies who are innovators in their field - solving important problems in new ways. We give founders the strategic insight to help them grow their business, and provide practical resources to help manage that growth sustainably.
Why are we here?
Sussex Innovation Centre opened in 1996, initially as a public-private partnership involving the two universities and local councils in the greater Brighton area. We were launched to harness the massive growth potential of the 'Sussex Academic Corridor', with the aim of retaining skilled graduates in the area, building bridges between business and academia, supporting innovative local startups and creating new jobs and economic growth.
Why are we a part of the University?
In 2008, we became wholly owned by the University of Sussex. Since then, we've taken a more prominent role in commercialising the products of research conducted at the University, and supporting Sussex students and graduates to realise entrepreneurial projects.
Our relationship with the University also means that the businesses we work with get to access those bright young minds, as well as having a direct line into world-leading expertise in specialist fields.

Our support is bespoke to every company's needs. Many of our strategic support products are based around:

Where are our centres?
In 2015 we opened our first off-campus hub, in the rapidly growing borough of Croydon, and a third site is currently under construction in Brighton city centre. Our innovation network helps to create opportunities for collaboration, knowledge transfer and investment between enterprises across the South East.
Where you’ll find our incubation hubs
Whichever location you choose to be your base, all of our members get access to the whole package. If it suits your business to relocate, we’ll help you to do just that. If you find yourself near one of our other sites, you can stop off and use the shared facilities - you can even book a meeting room or seminar space at another centre, if you want to host an event nearby to a client or customer.

Our office space is designed to be flexible for growing businesses, with a wide range of space to cater for companies of all sizes and shapes. When money’s tight, we’ll help to make a smaller office go further - and if business is booming, we’ll find you the space to accommodate your growing team. Take a look at some of our workspaces below. Not quite ready to move in? We also offer virtual offices and hot-desking.

It's easier to think differently with a change of scenery. Our centres can be the perfect place to host a conference, workshop or training day when you're looking to treat your guests to an inspiring atmosphere. We can provide you with spacious, modern facilities, state of the art AV, catering and more. We'll help to make your guests feel welcome and do everything we can to ensure that you hold an event to remember.
