Truly affordable workspace
Launched in 2017 as “a year-long gathering of creative pioneers”, The Trampery Republic is not only continuing past its initial twelve-months but expanding too. The workspace is now located in the newly-completed atrium space at Republic London, an irregular grid of timber beams and a massive geometric staircase rising through two balcony levels, designed by Studio RHE.
Alongside the curation and operation of the workspace, The Trampery has a Community Management role at Republic London, encompassing tenants across all 500,000 square feet of office space.

Share workspace with pioneers of creative technology
Playdeo was the first business to call The Trampery Republic home, a “studio developing cinematic games” founded by well-known figures from technology and design Jack Schulze, Nick Ludlam, Timo Arnall and Chris Lee.
Home of The British Journal of Photography
Apptitude Media, Publishers of the British Journal of Photography – in print since 1854 – are based in The Trampery Republic. Their work encompasses a high-quality, recently redesigned monthly print magazine, award- winning apps for iPad and iPhone, and an expanding series of events and social media channels that reach more than a million people, including the International Photography Awards, Breakthrough student season and Portrait of Britain.
The Trampery is a London-based social enterprise, specialising in shared workspace and support for entrepreneurs and creative businesses. Since founding Tech City’s first startup workspace, The Trampery has cultivated an ecosystem of acclaimed shared workspaces and sector-focused facilities across London, with more than 500 businesses having called The Trampery their home. Our partners include the Barbican, Peabody and London & Partners, and The Trampery’s patron is HRH the Duke of York.
Building on this, The Trampery is making a strategic shift towards co-developing ‘innovation districts’ that combine workspace, housing and lifestyle facilities.
From 2009 to 2014, we worked with the UK Prime Minister’s office, the Borough of Hackney and others to establish the Tech City cluster, and stretch it out from its core in Shoreditch.
From 2015 to present, we’ve been working with the City of Oslo and IKT Norge to develop Tøyen Startup Village, a new innovation district woven into Oslo’s most ethnically diverse neighbourhood.
And since 2015, we’ve been working with the Greater London Authority, London Legacy Development Corporation and Poplar HARCA to underpin a new cluster running down the Lea Valley spanning Tottenham, Hackney Wick and Poplar. (Our site at Fish Island Village is an important element of this project, but the scheme is so large that it almost functions as an innovation district in its own right!)
Our structure as a social enterprise fundamentally means we exist to provide the greatest possible benefit for society, not to make as much money as possible – all profits go to supporting our community. There are three aspects to this:
We help creative entrepreneurs realise their ambitions by providing shared workspaces and support programmes
We promote an ethos of mutual support and active citizenship throughout the entrepreneur community
We support entrepreneurship in deprived communities as a weapon against poverty.
