What is Li-fi?

LiFi is a wireless optical networking technology that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for data transmission. LiFi is designed to use LED light bulbs similar to those currently in use in many energy-conscious homes and offices- techtargetOpens in a new tab.

Li-fi is an innovative idea in IT, one that aims at eventually replacing radio frequency wireless signals with those that come from light sources. Li-Fi, i.e. Light Fidelity, is a technology enabling digital content to be broadcast using a light source. By switching a LED on and off several thousand times a second, data can be transmitted in computing language, in 01110… format.
