According to a report published by Envoy, in which employee attitudes toward remote work were measured and analyzed, most employees are still fearful of COVID-19 and are worried about the relaxing of safety measures and protocols in their area or country.
Several employees are now opting for a hybrid workplace set-up, which combines traditional methods with new, digital-based approaches. This set-up encapsulates the best of both worlds, embracing technology as the driving medium to productivity but also understanding that certain tasks and events are best done in designated office spaces.
The Keys to Managing a Hybrid Workplace
Establishing a hybrid working environment that can hit the same objectives and productivity levels of a traditional workplace set-up may be a challenge at first. This is especially true for companies that do not belong to industries that are tech-based or digitally inclined.
There are several factors to consider to establish a good system of communication and collaboration across the board. The first thing to consider is social cohesion. Social cohesion is essential in managing a hybrid workplace. Without social cohesion, employees will fail to see the proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel” which would lead to poor performance metrics in the long run. Social cohesion entails knowledge and understanding of the nature of work and the goals that need to be achieved by each employee. The six important factors for knowledge, development, and overall performance are:
– Social cohesion
– Perceived supervisory support
– Information sharing
– Vision and goal clarity
– External communication
– Trust
Another important factor to have is top quality leadership . For a team or unit to be effective, a leader who is technically capable and socially responsible must exist. quality that an effective leader of hybrid workplace must have are the following –
- Awareness – the ability to identify the needs and concerns of the team
- Agility – the ability to adapt to changing situations and predicaments while still performing at acceptable levels
- Authenticity – the ability to be yourself, in line with the mission and vision of the company
- Accountability – he ability to be responsible for the actions and inactions of the team as a unit without leaving anyone behind
The Concepts Behind Working From Home and the Hybrid Workplace Structure
A top executive at FaceBook predicts that the hybrid workplace is here to stay, particularly with maximizing live video conferencing and asynchronous means of collaboration. Others believe that there is no way to return to the pre-pandemic status quo. Big retailer Target has decided to push through with developing a hybrid workplace for thousands of its employees.
