Hans is an impact investor at New Island Capital and works in service of a mission-driven portfolio that employs debt, equity, and asset investments focused on advancing positive social and environmental change.
Previously, Hans worked as an equity investor at Equity Residential, where he evaluated and executed housing investments and developments for the largest apartment REIT in the U.S. He started his career at PGIM Real Estate, where he contributed to the formation of an impact-oriented investment fund focused on affordable housing and transformative developments in under-served neighborhoods in the U.S.
Hans is passionate about immigrant rights, environmental sustainability, and social impact. Hans currently co-leads AsylumConnect, a national nonprofit using technology to connect LGBTQ asylum seekers with safe and verified services. Supporters include Foursquare For Good, Roddenberry Foundation, Clinton Foundation, Immigration Equality, and Urban Justice Center. AsylumConnect has been selected to be part of the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship GSBI® Accelerator focused on serving migrants, refugees, and human trafficking survivors.
In 2019, Hans was nominated to the Leadership Academy by Equality California. Hans is also part of the 2020 cohort of New Leaders Council (NLC), the nation’s largest organization that recruits, trains, and promotes a rising generation of progressive leaders. Hans graduated from Wesleyan University with a B.A. in Economics (Cum Laude) and a full scholarship from the Freeman Foundation, a family foundation established by AIG co-founder Mansfield Freeman.
