Current projects include supporting people into employment through locally delivered Work Clubs, working with a network of partners and Job Centre Plus to provide bespoke support to job seekers. Linking with a variety of partners to deliver 'Volunteering As A Route To Employment' to link people with volunteering and training opportunities. Giving young people a chance to find out about starting their own businesses through the 'Try It' project, working with The Princes Trust. Supporting the development of new businesses and social enterprises, through the 'Do It' project linking with BG Effect, A Taste Of Enterprise and BGCBC Economic Development Department.
Working strategically to ensure projects impact upon the Welsh Government Anti-Poverty Strategy, Vibrant and Viable Communities strategy and the local Community Involvement Plan.
I have also collaborated on research with The Bevan Foundation, 'At The Wrong End Of The Rainbow, unemployment in Blaenau Gwent' which gives the perspective of job seekers and the help they receive:

Implementation of the Welsh Government flagship Anti-Poverty initiative Communities First, focusing on tackling poverty in deprived areas through community engagement and regeneration. Managing a diverse range of projects using results based accountability, across the themes of 'Prosperous Communities', 'Learning Communities' and 'Healthy Communities'.
Multi-agency partnership work with a range of agencies, including Local Authority, Community Council, NHS, Public Health Wales, Valleys Regional Park, Capita Symonds, as well as local businesses, Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges and Universities. Experience as Acting Coordinator role, managing a £150,000 budget.

Consultant Trainer in Mental Health First Aid & Applied Suicide Interventions Skills Training
2008 – Present
Helping educate people and organisations about mental health issues and combating the stigma that surrounds mental illness, through teaching the prescribed Mental Health First Aid (Wales) and Youth Mental Health First Aid (Wales). Delivered the first Mental Health First Aid (Wales) session in Newport to service users and carers, pioneered Mental Health First Aid with young carers in Gwent, as well as a number of sessions for third sector organisations and the statutory sector. Delivered Youth Mental Health First Aid (Wales) to Youth Services in Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend and Torfaen.
I have trained independently and co-trained with Sheree Williams (Training in Mind) Marina Ballinger (Training in Mind) and Susan Carlick (Training in Mind). Presented at conferences for mental health trainers in North and South Wales. Delivered ASIST for Caerphilly Council and Citizens Advice Bureau with Jan Channing (Citizen's Advice Bureau). I have just assisted Peter Green (PJG Consultants) in training Mental Health First Aid (Wales) instructors for Training in Mind.

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) Trainer
2009 – 2011
Helping to equip people and organisations to be able to deal with suicidal behaviour through education in the world's leading non physical intervention model (LivingWorks). The training explores attitudes and beliefs, interaction with the person at risk and asking about suicide, dealing with crisis, and networking to ensure a range of formal and informal resources for the person at risk.

Responsible for coordinating a vocational training centre for people with severe and enduring mental health issues, focusing on woodwork, art and design and IT. Providing opportunities for volunteering and making clients more work ready. Providing client focused support with Hafal's customised Personal Recovery Plan. Liaising with local Mental Health Teams, Social Services and GPs. Accompanying clients to health and social care appointments.

WARM is a local community group which is evolving and has been since 2008. WARM is a learning group which places community support and opportunity in the hands of those who are otherwise described as having a mental illness. To do this, WARM works closely with organisations to support and develop voice, engagement opportunities but also to influence social and educational (as well as political) change.
I was a Board Member and Adviser for WARM.

Representing voluntary sector organisations in multi-agency strategic planning meetings, at local and national (Welsh Government) levels. Liaison with Mental Health Development Service across Wales. Empowering service mental health service users by facilitating service user involvement across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport & Torfaen. Arranging conferences with key partners such as Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust, Social Services, voluntary sector services (Mind, Hafal, MDF The Bipolar Organisation, Gofal Cymru, etc) and service users and carers. Researching and identifying gaps in mental health service provision. Establishing community support groups and networks. Providing information services such as compiling mental health service directories, and enabling online access to consultation and discussion papers for mental health service improvement through the GAVO website.

Project management of road safety education projects for children, from babies to 11 years of age. This included work across Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen with schools and nurseries, Local Authorities and Gwent NHS Healthcare Trust. Part of the Road Safety Team, working alongside Road Safety Officers and Under Sevens Organisers, delivering public events and providing information on a number of road safety issues. Designing publicity for Local Authorities on the impact of Road Safety Education.
